Heart of the Matter is at Home - Yours and Mine

Have we become the society that reacts only after something unfair happens and more so only when it is reported in the media? and so soon forget it as another breaking news is out. It could not be the only case after Nirbhaya's and will not be the last. (Though I wish this should be the last). It is only that it excited media at the time when all other news seemed to be not worthy enough to draw the TRP. Neither COVID nor the Drug scam.

It's always safe to blame it on govt and pretend like we are championing a cause. But the fact of the matter is every citizen of the country should be taking the responsibility if our women folk are feeling unsafe.

If at all you want to make the present govt responsible, why not hold the previous govt, during the time in which these criminals are born. Sounds stupid, doesn't it? Does it mean there were no abuses on women during the term of previous govt. I am sure that is not the case. Right now everyone is working to get political mileage out of the incident. This is very unfortunate. Do the dirty minds like that of the rapists look into the caste when they commit the crime? Another stupid angle in which the entire issue is debated.

Whether the woman is a dalit or otherwise she deserves to be respected. Though it is very natural that emotions run high post such events, one should always look at it objectively and deal with it one issue at a time. The law will take its course and I have full confidence in the judiciary. But will the death sentence suffice? Remember, the nation rested and waited till another Nirbhaya was reported. Laws can speak of consequences but not the 'how' questions. That should be derived from the rich civilisation and culture of the land which is the very basis of our lifestyle.

There is more to do for us as a society in the way that both girls and boys are groomed right from their childhood both at home and outside. Times have changed, nature of studying places, working places have undergone remarkable changes. Before we leave our children to their terms, parents in particular should teach the right sanskars which can only be demonstrated. The consequences for their actions should be modelled from home itself. Unfortunately, there are still homes where sisters, mothers, daughter in laws, mother in laws are subjected to age old submission. The men folk relish on it. The young generation which is at the transition take forward what they see at home and the poor legacy is carried forward. There are two extremes in such cases - there is freedom taken for granted or no freedom at all. There starts the problem which later manifests in the incidents like that of Nirbhaya and Manisha. There is no middle ground which I am pitching for. That is to exercise freedom while respecting that of the others and giving up bit of mine for the good of everyone. Kindly, think and reflect on this.

Education for children should mean inculcating the right set of life skills alongside so called academics. Schools should also be a hallmark of change but unfortunately they largely remain the same as they were during independence. We buy generously from the western philosophies the concept of freedom of thought and expression, secularism and so on and so forth. But they haven't served the purpose on the issues that really matter.

Kindly take note of the following quotes and reflect upon our society and atmosphere at your homes, schools, workplaces and neighborhood where each one of us can make a difference and I wish we stop the blame game and work on creating a society that we could feel proud of.

यत्र नार्यस्तु पूज्यन्ते रमन्ते तत्र देवताः ।
यत्रैतास्तु न पूज्यन्ते सर्वास्तत्राफलाः क्रियाः ।।

Meaning:

"Where women are worshiped, there lives the Gods. Wherever they are not worshiped, all actions result in failure."

"When there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.”

Let us not wait for another breaking news that breaks our hearts and breaks us apart. Start your work at the place where you are and for that matter starting from the scratch matters.

SOLID IN THE SUPPORT OF OUR WOMEN FOLK..

Reading Before Rote: Rethinking the Basics

We often hear a familiar phrase echoing in classrooms: “This child lacks the basics.” But what exactly are these basics? Is it mathematical operations, grammar rules, or scientific definitions? Let’s pause and reframe this. In most cases, what teachers refer to as “the basics” is actually a lack of language fluency . We overlook the real foundation: the ability to read, comprehend, and respond confidently. Without the power to understand the medium of instruction—usually English in most schools—children are not just struggling with subjects, they are struggling to learn itself. 🔤 Language First, Then Learning Imagine a child who cannot differentiate between “bat” the animal and “bat” used in cricket. For this child, even a simple sentence in a textbook becomes a hurdle race. When a child struggles to listen, understand, read, and comprehend a question, expecting them to grasp content in science or math becomes unrealistic. This is why language is not just a subject—it i...

The Natural Path to Language Learning: From Listening to Writing

Language learning follows a natural order—listening, speaking, reading, and writing . Just as babies first listen, then speak, before learning to read and write, children should also be taught in this sequence. However, many educational systems reverse this process , prioritizing writing and reading first, making learning difficult and stressful. This matters even more when children are learning a second or third language , as their comfort with the new language develops gradually. Why Start with Listening and Speaking? Children absorb language best when they hear it frequently and use it in conversation . Listening and speaking are natural and spontaneous , while reading and writing require more effort. If children first understand words through speech , reading and writing become easier. But if they are forced to write before they fully grasp the language, they may feel overwhelmed and lose interest. When learning a second or third language , this sequence is even more crucial. If a ...

HAPPY PARENTS – A MUST FOR A SCHOOL

In a recent teachers’ conference I attended, a teacher declared as if all her problems revolve around parents and parents alone. I do not understand where that comes from. Surprisingly, it seemed to be a popular opinion. It reminded me of a famous Mulla Nasrudin story.  A man is walking home late one night when he sees an anxious Mulla Nasrudin down on all fours, crawling on his hands and knees on the road, searching frantically under a streetlight for something on the ground. “Mulla, what have you lost?” the passer-by asks. “I am searching for my key,” Nasrudin says worriedly. “I’ll help you look,” the man says and joins Mulla Nasrudin in the search. Soon both men are down on their knees under the streetlight, looking for the lost key. After some time, the man asks Nasrudin, “Tell me Mulla, do you remember where exactly did you drop the key?” Nasrudin waves his arm back toward the darkness and says, “Over there, in my house. I lost the key inside my house…” Shocked and e...
